Kazaguruma ("windmill" in Japanese) is a striking shade made with the "magewappa" technique of Japan, traditionally used in making container and tea caddies. Thinly sliced Akita cedar is soaked in boiling water and then bent into desired shape. The size of each layer of cedar wood is carefully calculated to create the curves and three-dimensional effect.
Tani, the designer and crafter of this unique lighting, is a new generation of lighting designer whom is noted for his approach of implementing traditional woodcraft and bamboo-craft techniques into contemporary design, and his delicate sense of the interplay of light and shadow. Every piece is hand-crafted by the designer himself.
